From board to gift: the Rešma workshop in Konjic

In Konjic, a town on the Neretva known for its woodworking craft, the Rešma workshop makes serving boards, decorative boxes, coasters and custom pieces — all in local wood, sanded by hand and finished with natural oil and wax.

A board that stays on the table

A serving board is used every day: for cheese, charcuterie, bread or fruit. It has to be large enough for the table, and beautiful enough to stay there when not in use. The workshop makes them in three sizes — large, medium and small — with gradually sanded edges.

A box for keepsakes

Decorative boxes are not just packaging. They hold jewellery, letters, a watch, or the small things that have nowhere else to go. The small box fits a bedside table, while the large one takes documents and keepsakes. The lid can carry an engraved motif or initials.

When an object carries a name

Most of the work goes into custom orders. A board or a box is made to the requested dimensions and purpose, engraved with a name, date, logo or short message. That is why they are most often ordered for weddings, anniversaries and corporate gifts — moments when an object should carry someone's name, not just a shape.

The finish

The wood is not covered with lacquer. It is finished with oil and wax, so the grain stays visible and becomes more pronounced over the years. No two pieces are the same: colour and grain differ from board to board. That is not a flaw, but part of a process that cannot be repeated exactly.

For the table, a gift and a memory

Alongside boards and boxes, the workshop makes coasters and traditional wooden gifts. The same object can end up on a family table or in a guest's bag as a memento of a trip. The workshop is also open to working with hotels, restaurants and event organisers who need a local wooden gift with a name on it.
