Dark reddish chestnut honey with an intense flavour and a gently bitter finish. It rarely crystallises.
Chestnut honey is easy to recognise: dark reddish, thick and strongly flavoured, with a gentle bitterness at the finish. Chestnut forests are not large, and high June and July temperatures demand a quick harvest, which makes this one of the more demanding honeys to produce.
It goes with walnut pancakes, ripe cheeses and cured meat. Because of its intensity, it is best used where the honey should be noticed rather than hidden.
It crystallises very slowly and stays liquid for a long time, even though it carries more pollen than lighter honeys.
Available in 150 g, 250 g, 350 g, 450 g, 900 g (wooden lid) and 900 g (jute). The price shown is for 150 g.
